This vintage eagle that seamlessly fits the shape of Kent State’s block “K” debuted when the Golden Flashes unveiled the majestic bird as their mascot in 1985. Though Kent State has tried out several mascots since it chose the nickname “Golden Flashes” in 1927, lightning has been a common symbol for the school. What an actual “golden flash” is is unknown; the university claimed the nickname had no real meaning.
